Denver, CO 80205
U.S.A.

time: 8:00 pm

part of tour: West Coast 2004

review: We were added to a show already booked, a "noise band" show. Turns out, it was ambient, electronic, soundscape experimental stuff. 3 different bands/performers. We were second for the night, and only a tiny handful of people showed up. However, Monkey Mania is an awesome loft/space in downtown Denver, run by some really cool and interesting people. We'll try for a show there again, and maybe the planets will align and some people will be out there. Thanks MM!

Espanola, NM — the Teen Center

Sunday, Apr 18, 2004

show # 2

with: GLORYHORDE ORCHESTRA (Espanola art-rock), 32 FINGERS (Espanola rock'n'roll), FOREVER FALLEN (Clovis NM hardcore)

part of tour: West Coast 2004

review: Damn, this was a freakshow. First off, HUGE thanks to Enrique of GLORYHORDE ORCHESTRA who put this together. Rick & crew went out of there way to get a show put together for us on a night (Sun) where they dont usually do shows. The show was a 'teen center' stuck out on the edge of town, surrounded by nothing much more than the New Mexico desert. It was freakin beautiful out there. After waiting a long time for people to show up (which, not many did), things started off with 32 FINGERS doing punk and rock stuff of a very eclectic nature. Strong vocal and rocking stuff. Then came the other out of town band, FOREVER FALLEN from Clovis NM. They were sort of trying to be screaming new metal / hardcore, and were totally generic. The kicker was that they were a christian "punk" band. Before we'd realized that they were, I'd just finished telling the singer a story about how FOURTH ROTOR almost accidentally played a christian "punk" show in Mississippi on our last tour, and how horrible that was. Enrique had a 'zine he'd made out for free that had a huge cross on the front, and it told about how he'd had christianity forced on him and he rejected it as bs early on. Still, FF never admitted they were a christian band, and they loaded up and left the gig as soon as possible. The cross on the background of their cover art gave them away in retrospect. The weakest thing was that they never had the guts or conviction to stand up for themselves, instead, like all the faux "as long as it rocks, the politics dont matter" weenies do, they tried to be all stealth. Barf. We played next, and it went well, but the biggest treat was the GLORYHORDE ORCHESTRA. They're drums, awesome bass that does "guitar" parts too, and vocals, with a few other odds & ends thrown in. They are indescribably weird, but let's just say their song "Alien AIDS" has to be our current favorite. Great, weird, creative stuff. I hope they record that soon.

The end of the Esanpola experince ended weird, with a frind of Rick's putting us up. We went over to this house, had some beers, all chatted things up, laughed about the christian band, and went to sleep. In the morning, some psycho neighbor freaked out on us, screaming some thing about how him mom saw us shoot heroine, and we'd better "get the fuck outta there or I'll call the cops". It was total Jerry Spring meets Cops. Good times: we left. What a fucker.
